Speaking of music...

Austria's entry came in 6th in this year's Eurovision Song Contest, the best showing for Austria in a long time (just behind Sweden, but ahead of Poland and France, I see). The contestant, Alf Poier, is a comedian who didn't appear to be taking the contest seriously. But hey, sixth place.

Grumbling from the Guardian:

"Juries happily gave points to Austria (an apparent cretin with toy animals on stage), Ukraine (featuring a contortionist in a turquoise leotard), and even Poland (a man with bright red hair who looked like a hormonally challenged Lulu). On all these they lavished points, but to the UK, not a bean."

Normally Belgium gets zero points, but hey: we beat t.a.t.u. this year!

Yes, we're awfully proud of Alf. And big congratulations to Belgium for beating t.a.t.u.

I guess I'm a lousy European. Eurovision inspires as much excitement in my bones as the talk around the dinner table by my little ones over the new "Nice People" reality show. Both of which, thanks to said dinner talk and headlines, I know much more about than is humane.

Is this the new political arena?

We loved Alf Poier! Maybe he'll inspire more original entries next year.

oh man, Nice People doesn't keep my attention very well, although I have been watching both "Bachelor" and "A la Recherche de la Nouvelle Star" :x

and Alf! What a cool name!
