Lost in transit

glastonbury and wimbledon

for the past two weekends i have enjoyed the two extremes of english outdoor events: glastonbury and wimbledon
not just two places on the map
but names that stand for whole concepts of living, priorities, target groups
between the mud and the manicured lawn, between strawberries and magic mushrooms, between a tent and the royal box, between bloc party and tim henman, between bandanas and panama hats, these events don't have anything in common apart from being quintessentially english
only they both depend on the weather
but that couldn't be more english either
